A CONCEPTUAL AND THEORETICAL DISCOURSE ON GODFATHERISM IN NIGERIAN POLITICS: IMPLICATION FOR POLITICAL EDUCATION

The literature on Nigerian government, politics and democracy since 1999 is replete with instances of the phenomenon of godfatherism. It has not only distorted democracy in Africa’s most populous nation-state, it has also threatened the very fabric of the Nigerian state. Even though a lot had been written on it and its implication on the Nigerian state, it has become imperative that we explore the conceptual and theoretical disclosure of the phenomenon.
